Delicious ,flavoured recipe made with kidney beans aka Rajma , gravy of onion and tomato with herbs and spices . In India , we are using many legumes and pulses in our everyday life as this is a great source of protein and fibres . #RajmaMasala #KidneyBeans #Punjabi Rajma Masala is a very popular dish in the Northern states of India. The Punjabi way of cooking Rajma Masala is to soak it overnight in water, boil it using a pressure cooker and mix bhuna masala made with chopped onions, pureed tomato, ginger, garlic and fresh spices including cumin, coriander and chilli powder. As my hubby is vegetarian I usually making Rajma Chawal for his healthy option . Rajma Chawal goes perfect with the basmati jeera rice or roti as per your mood .


  • 1/2 Bowl Kidney Beans (Rajma)
  • 3 Tbsp Olive Oil (Any vegetable oil)
  • 2 Garlic (Lasun)
  • 1/2 Inch Ginger(Adarak))
  • 1 Medium size Tomato
  • 1 Medium size Onion
  • 2 Green chillies
  • 1/2 Tsp Salt
  • 1/2 Tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 2 Tsp Kashmiri Red chilli
  • 1 Tsp Cumin Powder (Jeera)
  • 2 Tsp Coriander Powder (Dhaniya powder)
  • 1 Tsp Ajwain
  • 1/2 Tsp Garam Masala
  • 1 Tsp Kasturi Methi
  • Handful of finely chopped coriander leaves


1 Take 1/2 bowl of  Rajma and soak it overnight (8 hours) . Boil it in the pressure cooker for 5-6 whistles .

In a small pan, heat the 3 Tbsp of Olive oil. Add grated ginger-garlic paste. Add a pinch of Hing . Now add half bowl finely chopped onion . Cook , roast properly till the onion gets golden brown . Add green chillies .

3 Now add all the spices like , salt , turmeric powder , kashmiri red chili powder , cumin powder , coriander powder , ajwain . Mix it properly . Now add tomato puree and cook for 1 min . Add Rajma .Mix with the paste .Simmer for 1 mins . Now add 1 Bowl of Boiled rajma remaining water .
4 Put the lid and simmer at medium flame for 3 mins . Adjust the consistency as per your likes . Mash some rajma . Add kasturi methi and garam masala . Check the consistency and switch of the gas .Your Rajama Masala is ready . Take out in serving bowl and garnish Rajma masala with finely chopped coriander .
