Moong dal also called pili dal is easily available in market . This dal is very easy to make at home and taste is very good.Moong dal is very healthy and nutritious and it is made in pressure cooker.Yellow moong dal is extremely light and easy to digest. It is easier to cook.Compared to other dals, moong dal is one of the low carb pulses available.Moong beans are a good source of protein for vegetarians.This dal can be eaten with plain rice Jeera rice as well as chapati or nan .

As this dal is easy to digest ,you can make it at dinner time . Also if somebody is sick its good for them only use less chilli. Here I have given a spicy version of dal .You can adjust the chilli as per your taste.

  • 1 Bowl Moong Dal
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 1 Tsp Cumin seed (Jeera)
  • 1/2 Tsp Turmeric Powder
  • 2 Tsp Kashmiri Chilli Powder
  • 2-3 Green Chilli
  • 1 medium size Tomato
  • 1 medium size Onion
  • some Curry Leaves
  • 2 Dry Red Chilli
  • 1/2 Inch Ginger
  • 1/2 Tsp Sugar
  • 1/2 Tsp Mustard seed
  • Coriander Leaves for garnishing
  • 3 Tsp Oil
  • A pinch of Hing


1 Take 1 bowl of Moong dal . Clean it with water and soak for 8 hours . Now cook the dal in pressure cooker for 3 whistles.

2 In a small pan, Heat 2 Tsp oil , add cumin seed . Pop it . Now add a pinch of hing, ginger and onion . Let onion to cook for 3 mins or till gets golden brown .

3 Now add tomato (finely chopped) and green chilli . cook for 2 mins. Add boiled dal and mix all the ingredients very well . Add salt ,turmeric powder , and sugar . Add water and adjust the consistency of dal . Simmer it for 1 min . Dal is ready .

4 For tadka , take one small saucepan , add 1 tsp of oil ,add mustard seeds and let it pop up . Now add Garlic (finely chopped ) ,dried red chilli , and curry leaves. Switch of the gas and add kashmiri red chilli powder . Garnish the dal with this tadka . Garnish with also finely chopped coriander leaves . Your tadkewali moong dal dhaba style is ready . Serve hot with rice ,chapati or nan . Enjoy with onion and masala papad .
