Sabudana Vada is very famous snack in Maharastra India . It is made from sabudana (sago seeds). Sabudana is very light on the stomach, easy to digest, full of fibers, and minerals! The vada can be eaten with chutney, tea/coffee or just by itself. In Pune , Its a very famous Street food .
Sawan Month is already started and people keeping fast on every monday . This recipe is perfect you and your family will also enjoy . In India , people who observe religious fasting Sabudana vada is a favorite snack that can me made .
Sabudana , roasted peanuts (coarsely ground) , green chilli , potatoes , cumin seed are the main ingredients . If you are not doing for fasting coriander leaves and mint leaves can also be added . Its all unto you !!! Soaking sabudana is little tricky . I have given the tricks and tips in the video .
This can be serve as a evening snack or tea time snack . Sago vada, sagubiyyam vadalu,sabakki vadai are the other names of sabudana vada across the India. Sago vada, is a crispy , crunchy, tasty and spongy vada . Eating with green chutney or peanut coconut chutney during fasting will added flavour to the dish .


  • 2 Cups Sago Seeds (Sabudana)
  • 4-5 Green Chillies (Hara Mirch)
  • 1 Tsp Cumin Seed (Jeera)
  • 1 Medium size Potato (Alu)
  • 1/2 Cup Roasted Coarsely Ground Peanut (Phallidana)
  • Coriander Leaves (Hara Dhaniya )
  • Rock salt (Sendhya Namak)
  • Oil (For Frying)


1 Take Sago seeds and rinse with water . Soak in the water for 5 hours . Put nearly same amount of water as that of sago  or the water so that sago will deep no more than that .

2 After 5 hours mash the sago . Not completely just a little . Add mash potato , green chillies , coriander leaves , Sendhya namak , cumin seed and roasted peanuts . Mix all the ingredients properly .

3 Make medium size ball and press gently in the middle . You can also make hole in the middle . At high flame deep fry the balls . When ball are put in the oil , there will be lots of bubbles . When it disappears make the flame medium and deep fry the ball till it gets golden brown .

4 Enjoy hot with the green chutney or upwasli peanut coconut chutney .
